Happy Winter Solstice

San Francisco City Hall

San Francisco City Hall, Calif.

San Francisco City Hall boasts festive color and light for our long nights.  With Earth’s gradual shift, nights will start to get shorter in the northern hemisphere.  More light will soon be here.

In the meantime, we celebrate the darkness, and other forms of light.

  1. Never saw City Hall lit up like that, but then I left in ’74. Used to work not far from there. It was a treat to see that shot of it and stirred some good memories of hanging out in that neighborhood! Nice pic by Athena!

    • The City of SF has become creative with the lighting of City Hall over the years, on all different occasions. I am glad to have generated good memories for you, Gunta — and appreciate your visit and warm comment. 😀

    • I am so glad you liked the photo, Sue. It was at the end of the day’s light and the additional fog too, may have added that frosty look. Thank you for your kind wishes, and a year of warm comments. I hope you and your family have a safe and happy adventure in Mexico. 😀

  2. Such a Christmasy and festive sight with brilliant holiday lights! The stately mansion and the huge Xmas tree look absolutely glorious against the grey December skies!Great and well-balanced shot,Athena perfectly captured and framed it! Happy Winter Solstice, dear friend Jet 🙂 Enjoy a wonderful Christmas week °*˚★*˚°

    • I am so glad you enjoyed the photo, dear Doda. The lit-up building is San Francisco’s City Hall where, at the time the photo was taken, there was a political demonstration underway. Athena cleverly used the big Civic Center Christmas Tree to block out the crowd. I am so happy you enjoyed the photo and post, and I wish you a delightful Christmas time filled with lots of festivity and light. My very best to you, and many thanks for all of our delightful exchanges this year. 😀 😀

      • Well,a political demonstration underway and under the huge Christmas tree that brings peace, sounds a bit paradoxical, but Athena’s photo came to restore order … So many thanks for your heartwarming wishes! The same to you my friend!I do treasure the exchanges and the interaction we had this year and I’m looking forward to more 🙂 🙂

      • There are always people demonstrating at City Hall, but peacefully. And you’re right, Athena did bring order to the chaos in her photo. I am going up the coast for a few days to an inn on a river, not far from the Avenue of the Giants. Spending the holidays in the redwoods this year, and looking forward to a break; I’ve been working really hard on this novel, and finished Draft #7 this wk, getting close…. I hope you have a safe and peaceful holiday in beautiful Greece, dear Doda — I too look forward to sharing thoughts, sweet times, and your glittery keyboard dances ahead. ha. 😀 😀

      • Oh,how nice! You really deserve some relaxation after working so hard, dear Jet.Enjoy yourself,I am sure you’ll in such an interesting place.Looking forward to seeing you back and reading your posts and of course your new book. Here is some glittery dancing .•*★¨`•

      • Oh dearest Doda, I am thrilled and delighted with this awesome Christmas tree! Symmetry, dazzle, creativity, happiness and so much joy. •♥•*~.^^.~*♦♦* ♥♥♥ 😀 😀 Thank you for this blissful gift.

    • Thank you so much, Lynn. I have enjoyed sharing posts with you all year long, and I always enjoy “our” walks and your photos, songs and quizzes. (I have never gotten one quiz right, but I still enjoy them so much.) Enjoy! 😀

  3. Hello Jet! I have always loved the short days of winter. For me, it’s a wonderful time for cocooning and more inward reflection. I read more books, watch more documentaries, light candles. I can’t believe the days are already starting to get longer. I love winter light—the dramatic long shadows and the colour of snow in the shade—infinite hues of blues and purples. And I love all the festive lights! Happy Winter Solstice to you. Have a wonderful Holiday Season. :))

    • Thanks for reminding me of all the many beauties there are in winter. Today I went for a mushroom walk in the woods close to sundown; it was so rich with wet leaves, mushrooms, and gorgeous waning light in shades of orange. I cook more, read more, bake more, and watch lots of football when it’s storming too much to go for a walk– all fun activities. Happy Winter Solstice to you, Jeannie — and my best wishes to you and your partner for a fabulous holiday. Thanks so much for you lovely comments and visits all year long. 😀
