This Bell has proclaimed freedom and independence for Americans since our country’s beginnings in 1776. Summoning law makers and citizens, announcing public news, it could be heard ringing through the narrow cobblestone streets of Philadelphia. The inscription on it reads: “Proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof.”
This famous American Liberty Bell can still be seen in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Market Street. Weighing 2,080 pounds and made of mostly copper (70%) and tin (25%), it resides across the street from Independence Hall.
Philadelphia, the meeting place for the original Founding Fathers and signers of the Declaration of Independence, holds a great deal of American history. This quadrant where the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall are located is lined with cobblestone streets, slate sidewalks, hitching posts, colonial statues, and towering old deciduous trees. If you are ever in the area, it’s worth an extra few days to take in the historical landmarks. Philadelphia reminds me that reviewing our national history from days of past helps us better understand today and tomorrow.
Happy Independence Day!

How very, very kind. Thank you so much, Inese. 😀
You know I am new in blogging, and thanks to the bloggers like you I learn every day. All the best to you!
Jet, did you know there are 55 “stunt” bells? It is very unlikely the original bell is in that spot. My cousin’s son who went on a tour with his school said he was told the one in Liberty Bell Center is a duplicate. He said where they keep the original, but I don’t remember. Makes sense too as important an artifact as it is to this country.
I think a DNA test is in order! Thanks Donna.
Hope you had a good one! 🙂
Oh I did, thank you Jo. I hope you did too! 🙂
Very inspirational, Jet! Always great to remember the foundation that made this holiday possible.
